This month’s newsletter is about progress: in our work, in the industry, and in how we think about what’s next for manufacturing.
Inside Therion
What we’ve been building, launching, or learning.
Our First Birthday 🪓
October marked a full lap around the sun for Therion: one year of building, learning, occasionally swearing at our screens, and somehow still liking each other enough to celebrate with axe throwing and curry.
If the year had a rhythm, it split neatly in two halves:
The first six months were about listening, diving deep into the world of UK manufacturing, working alongside clients, and figuring out where technology could genuinely make a difference (rather than just adding more software-shaped noise).
The second half was about building. We turned that research and insight into code, design, and the foundations of a modular platform we call Therion OS. We even deployed our first job tracking module into a factory just before turning one.
We have a big vision for Therion OS (and a roadmap that keeps our CTO awake at night), but the direction is clear and the momentum is real.
Here’s to year two: sharper focus, more modules, and maybe slightly better aim.
Therion Heads to Canada 🇨🇦
Next week, our CEO James Hall heads to Toronto as part of the Innovate UK x MaRS Made Smarter Innovation Programme: connecting eight UK companies with North America’s advanced manufacturing leaders.

The programme focuses on digital tools that make manufacturing more productive, resilient, and sustainable: the same mission behind Therion OS. For us, it’s a chance to learn from global innovators and bring those insights back to strengthen UK industry.
We’ll share what we discover in next month’s newsletter: lessons from the world’s most forward-thinking factories and how they can help manufacturers here at home (read the announcement).
What we’re reading
While James heads overseas, we’ve also been reflecting on what digital progress really looks like closer to home:
On the Blog: “To ERP or Not to ERP?”
Our recent article, To ERP or Not to ERP: Why SME Manufacturers Are Stuck, and What Comes Next, continues to resonate with manufacturers looking for smarter, simpler ways to modernise their systems without drowning in the cost and complexity of traditional ERP.
It explores why so many ERP programmes fall short and what a more modular, practical path forward can look like. If you’re rethinking how your business manages operations and data, this one’s for you.
Most SMEs don’t need a bigger system; they need clearer data and simpler tools that actually work together.”
Rewiring Operations for Speed and Growth
The aerospace and defence industry faces the same challenges many manufacturers do: legacy systems, slow decision cycles, and the need for speed.
McKinsey’s recent piece, Rewiring Aerospace and Defense Operations for Speed and Growth, explores how complex manufacturers are modernising their operations to move faster without losing control.
It’s a useful reminder that the principles of agility and connected data aren’t just for tech companies, they’re what’s driving growth across every part of industry.
In Case You Missed In… What If Your Factory Could Think?
Last month, James explored a simple question in his presentation at the EMCON manufacturing conference — What if your factory could think? — and how emerging technology and connected data are reshaping what’s possible on the factory floor. For anyone who couldn’t attend the talk in person, we’ve republished the key points on our blog.
Question time…
❓“We’ve got data everywhere, systems, spreadsheets, shared drives. Where do we even start to bring it together?”
Our take: The trick isn’t to tape everything together and call it transformation. It’s to know what good looks like, then build toward it, one smart step at a time.
Start small, make progress, but make sure every move ties back to a clear digital strategy. That’s your golden thread.
And where you begin matters. For some, it’s production control and job margins. For others, it can be efficiency or team utilisation. We help you find that first high-impact project, the one that proves what’s possible, and build from there.
A question for you: If you could see one thing instantly, clearly, across your whole business, what would it be?

Work with us
We build digital tools that make manufacturers faster, smarter, and a little less stressed.
If your operation feels more complex than connected, we can fix that.
Until next time,
The Therion Team
